Before buying a property, a buyer needs to decide if he will have city sewer, or a septic system. If he or she chooses the latter, it is highly recommended to have it perc tested before purchase.
To perform the test, the buyer contacts an excavator. The excavator will coordinate with the county health department, and meet a county sanitarian at the site. The excavator will dig a 3'-4' hole while the santiarian inspects the type of sediment that is removed from the ground. The sanitarian is examining the soil's drainage characteristics to determine if it will be adequate for a septic drain field. If the site "percs" the buyer will be good to go. The sanitarian will write a report and determine the site as suitable for a septic drainfield. (picture of hole in ground)
